Colonels sweep season series against Eagles
The Centre College baseball team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Asbury College 8-4 Wednesday, April 23 at Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky.
With the win the Colonels improve to 18-16 on the season. The 18 wins is the most for the Centre baseball team since 2001. The loss drops the Eagles to 15-20 on the season.
Asbury put up a run in the second inning and two in the third off freshman pitcher Cory Crowdis (Louisville, Ky.) to take an early 3-0 lead.
Centre bounced back with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game. After a pair of Asbury errors junior Jake Jones (Griffin, Ga.) drove in two runs with a double. Junior Brandon Rosen (Ashland, Ky.) followed with a run scoring single to tie the game at 3-3.
Senior Jarrod Williams (Carrollton, Ky.) relieved Crowdis in the fifth and allowed a run on an error and a pair of walks to give Asbury the 4-3 lead.
The Colonels would take the lead for good as they put up three runs on a pair of walks, a hit batter, two wild pitches, and a sacrifice fly. Centre added two more in the eighth with the help of three Asbury errors to extend the lead to 8-4.
