The Centre College baseball team was defeated 14-4 at the hands of the College of Mt. Saint Joseph Tuesday, April 9 at Midland Field in Amelia, Ohio.

With the loss, the Colonels drop to 14-12 on the season, 5-7 in SCAC conference play. The win improves the Lions to 12-11.

Centre opened the scoring early, putting up one run in the top of the first. Freshman John Clark (Lexington, Ky.) led the game off with a double and was driven on a single by a Jake Jones (Griffin, Ga.) to put the Colonels ahead 1-0.

The Lions responded with a run of their own in the first off freshman pitcher Cory Crowdis (Louisville, Ky.) following a double and a pair of singles to tie the game at 1-1.

The Colonels would go ahead again in the top of the third inning. Freshman Steven Proctor (Springfield, Ga.) doubled in the gap and with two outs Jones picked up another RBI with a double of his own to put Centre up 2-1.

Mt. Saint Joseph's responded with three runs of their own in the third on four hits including a pair of doubles to go ahead 4-2.

Centre would rally to tie the game in the fourth with two runs of their own. After Crowdis reached on an error to start the inning, sophomore Steven Kull (Frankfort, Ky.) homered to left to drive in two and tie the game at 4-4.

The tie score did not last long as the Lions scored a run in the fourth, one run in the fifth, then added four runs in the sixth and four in the seventh inninigs for the 14-4 victory.

Crowdis suffered the loss for the Colonels and falls to 1-1 on the season. Crowdis pitched five innings, allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on 13 hits while walking one and striking out one. Senior Jarrod Williams (Carrollton, Ky.) relieved Crowdis and pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three runs on no hits while walking three and striking out one. Sophomore Aaron Herbert (Louisville, Ky.) finished the game for Centre, going .1 inning, allowing two hits and one run.

Three different Colonels had multi-hit games in the loss. Steven Kull led the way with a home run, two runs batted in and a run scored. Jake Jones and John Clark also added two hits apiece for Centre.

Ben Hunterman picked up the win for the Lions and improved to 2-1 on the season. Hunterman went six innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits while walking two and striking out five.

Ryan Rodriguez led the way for the Lions at the plate, going 3-4 with a home run and four runs driven in. Nick Weimer also had three hits in the game, including two doubles.

Centre returns to action Saturday, April 12 as the Colonels travel to Tennessee for a conference double header. First pitch is set for 12 pm.
