2009 SCAC Conference Tournament
The Centre College baseball team finished as the third seed in the SCAC Eastern Division to earn a trip to the 2009 SCAC Conference Tournament in Jackson, Miss., being held through Thursday, April 23 to Sunday April, 26.
The Centre College baseball team has qualified for the conference tournament three years in a row for the first time since 1997-99. This year the Colonels shrugged off a slow start to the season to finish 6-6 in the tough SCAC Eastern Division.
It is only the second time since the 1998 season that the Colonels have finished .500 or better in conference play, with the only other year of .500 baseball coming in 2008. In route to the 6-6 finish in the Eastern Division the Colonels were the only SCAC team to win a series against Birmingham Southern College, who was receiving votes in the national poll at the time of the series.
Since Coach Mike Pritchard took over the program in 2004 the Colonels have earned three consecutive trips to the SCAC Conference Tournament, 2007-09, as well as the first 20 win season since 2001 in 2008.
The Colonels look to build upon their recent success at the 2009 SCAC Conference Tournament in Jackson, Miss., in hopes of winning the first Conference Championship in the SCAC era.
The Colonels open up tournament play Thursday, April 23, against #5 Millsaps College at 7:00 pm. The tournament is double-elimination and is hosted by Millsaps College.
