Baseball News

The Centre College Baseball program has recently announced their post-season team awards with Jake Jones (Griffin, Ga.) earning the Most Valuable Pitcher award and Jeff Williams (Knoxville, Tenn.) being named the Most Valuable Player. Cameron Fishman (Los Angeles, Calif.) was then named the Freshman of the Year and Brandon Rosen (Ashland, Ky.) received the Cols' Award.

Senior right-hander Jake Jones demonstrated his skills on the mound last year with a 4-2 record in 11 appearances while posting a 3.88 earned run average. Jones capped off an amazing career with a complete game victory over then # 5 Millsaps in the first round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Baseball Conference Tournament.

Senior Jeff Williams put together one of the best single season's in school history earning not only the team's MVP but also being named to the 2009 All-SCAC First Team. In 2009, Williams tied the single season hits record with 59 as well as leading the team in batting average (.404), runs scored (37) and stolen bases (11).

Catcher Cameron Fishman's stats really showed how great of a freshman he was and proved why he was honored with the team award of Freshman of the Year. He had the second best batting average on the team (.375) in 29 games played and his 17 walks were the second most on the team this past season. Fishman also led the SCAC in runner thrown out.

Senior right fielder Brandon Rosen, a four-year starter and two-time captain, had a senior season to remember. He tallied his highest career batting average .370 along with leading the team in runs batted in with 35. Rosen was also named to the 2009 All-SCAC First Time - the first time Rosen had earned such an award during his career. Brandon earned the Cols' Award as it is given to the player that shows the true meaning of being a "Team-Player." The person who receives this award shows a strong commitment to the team, good sportsmanship and shows how much he truly loves to play the game.

Centre finished the season 12-24 overall and 6-6 in SCAC play, qualifying for the conference tournament for the third straight year. In the 2009 SCAC Conference Tournament the Colonels finished third and won two games for the first time in Centre's SCAC history.
