Thirteen different players scored as the Centre College men's basketball team won its eighth straight game, a 75-38 win over Hendrix College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) game, Sunday, Jan. 14, in Danville, Ky.
With the win, the Colonels improve to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the SCAC, while Hendrix falls to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in league action.
Centre was on fire to start the game drilling four straight shots, including three three pointers, to race to an 11-0 lead. The Colonels continued to push, extending its first half lead to as many as 23 points before going to the locker room with a 43-21 advantage.
Centre shot lights out from the field in the first half making 15 of their 23 shots (65.2%), including six of its nine (66.7%) three-point attempts. Hendrix, on the other hand, shot only 28.0% (7-25) and missed all eight of its three-point attempts.
The second half was the same as the first as the Colonels led by at least 22 points the entire half before finishing with the 37-point win. Centre finished the game shooting 58.3% (24-48), while Hendrix shot only 19.4% (6-31) in the second half and only 23.2% (13-56) for the game. Centre also out rebounded the Warriors 40-30 in the victory.
Junior guard Matt Nestheide (Edgewood, Ky.) led all scorers with 16 points on five of six shooting. The junior guard also registered five rebounds, three assists and a steal in 28 minutes of action.
Freshman forward Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.), starting his first career game for the injured Matt Jacobson (Lagrange, Ky.), scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds and senior center John Patterson (Lexington, Ky.) posted his third double-double of the year with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Andrew King led the Warriors with nine points and five rebounds. Michael Bennett, Ryan Wible and Drew George added five points apiece in the defeat.
Centre will return to action, Friday, Jan. 19, when it hosts Southwestern University. The SCAC contest will be played as part of a men's/women's double header and will begin at 8 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
