Centre's Britt picks up SCAC weekly honor again
Centre College senior men's basketball player Thomas Britt (Louisville, Ky.) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, February 11 through Sunday, February 17.
Britt scored 22 points and grabbed four rebounds in helping the third-ranked Colonels defeat DePauw 69-66 and clinch the regular-season SCAC Championship in the team's only game of the week. It was Centre's 21st consecutive win - breaking the old conference mark of 20 consecutive wins set by Rhodes College during the 1991-92 season.
Britt hit eight of his 10 shot attempts, including three of his five three-point shots and all three of his free throw attempts in 34 minutes of action. The senior also had a block and a steal in the road victory.
Britt, who is just 68 points shy of reaching the 1,000 points for his career, leads Centre at 15.9 points per game (seventh in the SCAC) and has now scored 20 or more points six times while scoring in double figures in all but one game.
In addition, Britt leads the conference in field goal percentage (54.3%), free throw percentage (89.8%) and three-point field goal percentage (50.5%). No player in SCAC history has led the league in all three categories in the same season.
This is his second time the senior guard has received the award. He was also selected as the league's player of the week following home wins over Millsaps and Hendrix.
Centre will be back in action Friday, Feb. 22 against Oglethorpe University. The SCAC contest will be played as part of a men's/women's doubleheader and is set to begin at 8 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga. |
