SCAC selects Britt as men's basketball Player of the Week

Following a career-high effort and another double-digit performance two days later, Centre College senior men's basketball player Thomas Britt (Louisville, Ky.) has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 21 through Sunday, January 27.

Britt hit the biggest shot of the weekend, and maybe of his career, in Friday night's marquee SCAC match-up between 14th-ranked Centre and 18th-ranked Millsaps, which was heard live nationwide via D3hoops.com.

Trailing 75-72, Britt found a way to get an off-balance three-point shot off from the top of the key and nailed it with 0:00.3 second on the clock to force overtime. Listen to Wes Anderson's call of game-tying three-pointer

From that point, it was all Britt and the Colonels. After scoring only three points in the first half, the senior guard had eight of his game-high 31 points in the extra period and Centre cruised to the 90-80 victory. Britt was seven of 14 from the field, including seven of 12 from the three-point line and 10 of 11 from the free throw line. He also added two rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes of action.

Two days later, Britt battled foul trouble for much of the game and was only able to get three shots off, but still managed to score 10 points, hitting all eight of his free throws, including six in the final two minutes to seal a 69-59 win over Hendrix.

For the weekend, Britt averaged 20.5 points per game while shooting an impressive 53.8 percent (7-13) from three-point range. He was close to automatic from the foul stripe - nailing 18 of 19 attempts (94.7%).

For the season, Britt is averaging a team-best 16.1 points (sixth in the SCAC) and 1.9 steals (fifth in the SCAC) per game. He is shooting 53.8 percent from the floor (third in the SCAC). Britt leads the league in both free-throw percentage (88.6%) and three-point field goal percentage (50.6%). He is tied for fifth in three-point field goals made per game (2.47).

Centre returns to action Friday, Feb. 2 with a road trip to San Antonio, Texas to play Trinity University. The SCAC game will be played as part of a men's/women's doubleheader and will start at 8 p.m. CST.
