Winning streak reaches 14 as men defeat Colorado 70-55

Down by three-points at halftime and eight points early in the second half, the Centre College men's basketball team rallied to win its 14th straight game of the season defeating Colorado College 70-55 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) game, Sunday, Jan. 20 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The win, which is the Colonels' 14 straight this season and 14th consecutive win against an SCAC opponent dating back to last year including the conference tournament, improve to 14-1 overall and remain unbeaten in SCAC play at 6-0. Colorado falls to 0-14 overall and 0-7 in league action.

Centre led for much of the first half, but with 3:20 left in the opening frame, the Tigers' Lance Jacobs knocked down a three-pointer to give Colorado a one-point lead (24-23). The lead grew to seven points (30-23), but the Colonels were able to cut the deficit and go into the locker room trailing 30-27.

Colorado scored the first five points of the second half to extend the lead to eight points (35-27), but once again Centre fought back scoring the next 11 points to go back in front 38-35 with 13:28 left to play.

With the score tied at 40 apiece the Colonels out scored the Tigers 16-6 over the next 4:24 to lead 56-46. Colorado cut the lead to eight points, but would get no closer scoring only nine more points the remainder of the way, while giving up 14.

Centre, which entered the contest shooting 50.0% or better in each of its last five games, shot 44.1% (26-59) on the day and out rebounded the Tigers 40-29. Colorado was consistent shooting 33.3% in both halves to finish the game making 17 of its 51 attempts.

Senior guard Thomas Britt (Louisville, Ky.) led all scorers with his fourth game of 20 points or more. Britt scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

Junior guard T.C. Thomason (Russellville, Ky.), sophomore forward Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) and senior guard Matt Nestheide (Edgewood, Ky.) also finished in double figures for Centre. Thomason scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Noll recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Nestheide added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Jacobs led Colorado with 17 points in 37 minutes of action. Brady Ohlsen scored 14 points and had nine rebounds and Nate Brodman added 12 points and four rebounds in the loss.

Centre will return home Friday, Jan. 25 to host Millsaps College. The SCAC game will be played as part of a men's/women's doubleheader and is set to begin at 8 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium in Danville, Ky.
