Centre's Nestheide earns SCAC Player of the Week honors
After helping the team to two wins on the week, Centre College senior men's basketball player Matt Nestheide (Edgewood, Ky.) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Dec. 2. 
Nestheide, the reigning SCAC Player of the Year, averaged 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and a steal in leading the Colonels to a road over win over Berea College and an SCAC home win over DePauw University.
In the 80-67 non-conference win over Berea on Tuesday, Nestheide scored 18 points, while adding six assists, five rebounds and a steal in 34 minutes of action. Four days later, the senior guard scored 14 points with four rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 78-64 win over previously unbeaten DePauw.
In the two games, Nestheide shot 54.5% (12-22) from the field, including 57.1% (4-7) from the three-point line while making all four free throw attempts. The senior currently leads the Colonels in scoring at 14.3 points per game (tied for 13th in the SCAC) through four games. He is tied for sixth in the league in assists (3.0 per game) and leads the SCAC in free throw percentage (100.0% - 11 of 11).
Following finals week, Centre will next play Wednesday, Dec. 12 against the University of Cincinnati-Clermont. The non-conference home game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
