Men's Basketball News

Having already been ranked No. 17 in the DIII News preseason poll, the Centre College men's basketball team has been ranked No. 13 in the 2008-09 D3hoops.com preseason top 25 as voted upon by a panel of sports information directors and media members from across the country.

The Colonels, which have not been ranked in a preseason poll since 1992, finished the 207-08 season at No. 9 in the final D3hoops.com poll following the most successful season in school history.

Centre posted a 26-3 overall record a year ago in which they won 25 straight games and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The 26 wins and .897 winning percentage as well as the 25-straight wins set new school records. Centre also reach as high as No. 2 in the D3hoops.com poll last season, the highest in school history, before finishing at No. 9.

Centre will need to replace NABC Second Team All-American Thomas Britt and First Team All-SCAC selection Matt Nestheide, but return three starters to the 2008-09 team. Senior T.C. Thomason (Russellville, Ky.), the Colonels leading returning scorer (12.7 ppg) and rebounder (5.4 rpg) and Danny Noll (12.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg) will be called upon to lead the team this season.

Centre begins its 2008-09 campaign Saturday, Nov. 15 with a road trip to Franklin, Ind. to play the Franklin College Grizzlies. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
