Centre men fall on the road to DePauw, 78-74
The Centre College men's basketball team dropped its first SCAC conference game of the season losing 78-74 to the DePauw Tigers, on Sunday, Jan. 4, in Greencastle, Ind. The Colonels are now 8-3 on the season and 2-1 in the SCAC.
The Colonels held a lead for most of the first half, even taking a nine point lead over DePauw at one point, but the Tigers went on a 27-10 run to close the first half. The Colonels went into halftime trailing DePauw, 42-34.
The Colonels rallied in the second half to recapture the lead at the 10:13 mark thanks to a three-pointer from senior guard Kris Bentley (Pikeville, Ky.). The lead then changed hands four times in the closing ten minutes of the game until the Tigers took the lead for good in the game's final three minutes.
The DePauw win today over Centre snapped the Colonels' 22-game conference regular season win streak, which was the longest streak in league history.
Bentley led all Colonels in points scored with 21, going 6-9 from three point land. Fellow senior T.C. Thomason (Russellville, Ky.) scored 13 points for the Colonels. Junior Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) scored 15 points in the loss.
The Colonels return to action on Friday, Jan. 9, at home against SCAC rival Rhodes. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
