Colonels stay hot, defeat Hendrix 65-59
Behind a strong second half performance the Centre College men's basketball team opened a two game SCAC road trip with a victory over host Hendrix College, 65-59, on Friday, Jan. 23, in Conway, Ark. The Colonels are now 13-3 on the year and 6-1 in the SCAC.
With the win, the Colonels have now won five straight SCAC conference games. The loss drops Hendrix to 11-6 on the season, 4-4 in the SCAC.
Hendrix came out strong in the first half building an 8-point lead while the Colonels struggled to run their offense. In the first half Hendrix feasted off of 13 Centre turnovers and consequently the Colonels went into halftime trailing Hendrix by eight, 33-25.
The Colonels came out in the second half with a rediscovered passion and quickly erased the 8-point deficit thanks to a 12-4 run. The Colonels seized the lead with 3:00 minutes to go in the game and never looked back in route to their thirteenth win of the season.
The Colonels put the clamps down defensively in the second half limiting Hendrix to 8-22 (36.4%) from the field. For the game Centre dominated on the boards out-rebounding Hendrix 37-23.
Leading the Colonels against Hendrix was junior forward Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) who finished with a game-high in points (17) and in rebounds (9). Helping Noll was senior wing T.C. Thomason (Russellville, Ky.) who finished with 10 points. Freshman guard Jeff Mullaney (Louisville, Ky.) came off the bench to score 12 points.
The Colonels return to action Sunday, Jan. 25, on the road against SCAC rival Millsaps. Tip off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
