Colonels continue early success down Oglethorpe 64-59
The Centre College men's basketball team won its third straight game and second straight SCAC conference game by beating Oglethorpe 64-59 on Sunday, Dec. 7, in Atlanta, Ga., to improve their overall record to 5-1, 2-0 in the SCAC.
The #23 ranked Colonels have not lost to the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels since the 2004-2005 season. Oglethorpe picked by fellow SCAC coaches to finish third in the SCAC eastern division put up quite a fight over the game. The Stormy Petrels raced out to an early 8-3 lead over the Colonels and over the course of the first half the lead changed hands five times. Going into halftime the Colonels were down 3 points, 34-31.
In the second half the game continued to go back and forth until the 16th minute mark when the Colonels pulled away for good. Centre closed the game with a 23-18 run.
All but one of the Colonels starters reached double digits in points against Oglethorpe. The lone starter to not record double digit points was the Colonels starting point guard Ryan Crowdis (Louisville, Ky.) who finished with 9 points. Crowdis did lead all Colonels with 7 assists. Junior Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) led all Colonels in points with 15. Noll was only one rebound short of a double-double. Sophomore centre Alex Lloyd (Lexington, Ky.) recorded the first double-double of the year for the Colonels tallying 10 points and 11 rebounds.
With the win the Colonels improve to 5-1, 2-0 in the SCAC. The Stormy Petrels are now 6-2 on the year and 1-1 in the SCAC.
The Colonels have the upcoming week off for finals but return to action on Dec. 15 on the road against Clermont. The game against Clermont is schedule to start at 7:00 pm. |
