Men's basketball picked to finish second in SCAC
In an exclusive voting by the league's head coaches, the Centre College men's basketball team has been tabbed to finish second this year in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) after winning the regular season title last season.
The No. 13 Colonels finished with 87 total points, including three first place votes to finish only one point behind DePauw University, which tallied 88 points and four first place votes. Trinity University rounded out the top three with 86 points and the remaining two first place votes in one of the closest preseason polls in recent SCAC history.
The Colonels look to build upon a school record season which saw them finish 26-3 and champions of the Eastern Division. Returning Centre are senior wing T.C. Thomason (Russellville, Ky.) and junior forward Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.). Thomason, a two-year starter and Third-Team All-SCAC selection last season, is the leading returning scorer and rebounder at 12.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Hendrix College was fourth with 62 votes. Oglethorpe University received 59 votes for fifth. Millsaps College picked up 55 votes to start the final six schools, followed by Rhodes College (53) in seventh, Austin College (52) in eighth, Southwestern University (30) in ninth, Sewanee-University of the South (20) in 10th and Colorado College (13) in 11th.
Birmingham-Southern, in the second year of its four-year provisional transition from Division I to Division III will not count in the league standings. |
