Colonels open 2008 SCAC play with win
For the second straight year the Colonels opened SCAC conference play with a win. This year's victory came on the road against Sewanee with a final score of 60-39. The Colonels for the second straight game held their opponent's shooting percentage under 30%.
The Colonels raced out to an early 7-0 lead in the game thanks to a quick three by senior Kris Bentley (Pikeville, Ky.) and a lay-up by sophomore Alex Lloyd (Lexington, Ky.). The Sewanee Tigers rallied but were unable to stop the Colonels scoring onslaught epitomized by a 22-8 point run late in the first half.
The Colonels went into half with a 22 point lead over the Tigers. The Tigers bounced back in the second half to outscore the Colonels 24-23 in the half. But despite the solid play from the Tigers in the second half the Colonels continued to control the game and went on to win 60-39.
For the game the Colonels limited the Tigers to an opponent shooting percentage of just 26.1% and a 3-point shooting percentage of 7.7%. The Colonels shot just under 50% from the field with a shooting percentage of 48.9%.
Leading the Colonels in scoring tonight were Pre-Season D3hoops.com All-American Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) and freshman Jeff Mullaney (Louisville, Ky.) with 14 points a piece. Noll also recorded six rebounds in the game. Senior T.C. Thomason (Russellville, Ky.) was second for the Colonels in points scored with 12. Alex Lloyd led all Colonels in rebounds with 8.
With the win the Colonels improve to 4-1, 1-0 in the SCAC while the Sewanee Tigers drop to 2-5, 0-1 in the SCAC. The Colonels return to action Sunday, Dec. 7, on the road at SCAC opponent Oglethorpe. The game is schedule to start at 12 pm. |
