Colonels dominate Tigers, 65-35

The Centre College men’s basketball team won its fourth straight SCAC game by defeating visiting Sewanee University, 65-35, on Friday February 20, in Danville, Ky.  The Colonels have now won 11 of their last 13 games and are 19-4 on the year, 11-2 in the SCAC.

The Colonels scored the first basket of the game thanks to a lay-up by sophomore center Alex Lloyd (Lexington, Ky.) and never looked back.  For the duration of the game the Colonels did not trail the Tigers for a single second.  Going into halftime the Colonels had built a solid 14 point lead over the Tigers, 32-18.  In the first half the Colonels shot 50% (13-26) from the field while holding Sewanee to a shooting percentage of 27.6% (8 for 29).  Leading the Colonels in the first half was senior guard Kris Bentley (Pikeville, Ky.).  Bentley scored eight points off of 3 for 4 shooting from the field.

In the second half the Colonels continued to pour it on the Tigers by opening the second half with a 9-2 run.  The Colonels finished the game in flurry holding the Sewanee Tigers from scoring a single point for the final seven minutes of the game.  The Colonels went on to win 65-35, in route to their nineteenth win of the year and their seventh straight win against the Sewanee Tigers.

For the game the Colonels shot 25 for 52 (49.0%) from the field while limiting Sewanee to a dismal shooting performance of 14 for 54 (25.9%) from the field.  The Colonels dominated on the boards out-rebounding the Tigers by 11, 39-28.

Senior guard Ryan Crowdis (Louisville, Ky.) finished the game with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.  Junior forward Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) also scored in double-figures, finishing the game with a game-high 11 points and a game-high 9 rebounds.  Senior forward T.C. Thomason (Russellville, Ky.) scored 10 points.

The Colonels return to action Sunday, February 22, at home against SCAC opponent Oglethorpe.  The game Sunday, being the last home game of the season, will serve as senior day for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.  Please come out and support the team’s seniors at the Senior Day Ceremony in between the men’s and women’s games on Sunday.  The men’s game against Oglethorpe is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
