Centre men's basketball team ranked #21 in D3hoops.com preseason poll
The Centre College men's basketball team is ranked #21 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll. Centre is the only SCAC team ranked in the top 25 poll.
The Colonels finished last season with a 23-5 overall record and a 12-2 mark in conference play. Centre has won three straight regular season titles and 18 SCAC Tournament Championships.
Centre will be led by senior Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.), junior Alex Lloyd (Versailles, Ky.), and sophomore Jeff Mullaney (Louisville, Ky.).
Noll was selected as an All-SCAC First Team member last year. He led the conference in three-point field goal percentage (43.7%) and was fifth in averaged points per game with 15.9 and field goal percentage at 51.4%.
Lloyd will be a key player for the Colonels this year because of his experience at the center position. Last season Lloyd was fifth in the conference in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game and third overall in blocked shots with 1.8 per game.
Last season Mullaney was a Division III News Freshman All-American and the SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year. He was third in the SCAC in three-point field goal percentage at 44.4%. Mullaney also averaged 8.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists for Centre in 24.4 minutes of action per game.
"It's always exciting when you are recognized by a national poll such as D3hoops," head coach Greg Mason said.
"To be pre-season ranked #21 shows the respect people have for our team last season and for the return of Danny Noll. In saying that, 12 of our 17 players are either freshman or sophomores so this year's team is very different than last year's team. How quickly our young guys pick up our system will determine if we are a legitimate top 25 team," Mason finished.
Centre will open its 2009-2010 season Wednesday, Nov. 18 against Maryville College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Gym in Danville, Ky.
