Men's basketball team picked as preseason favorite in SCAC
The Centre College men's basketball team was picked as the preseason favorites to win the SCAC Eastern Division championships as well as the SCAC title.
Voting was done by SCAC men's head basketball coaches in a exclusive balloting system.
The Colonels are defending league champions and ranked #21 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll. Centre received eight of the 12 first place votes and they received 114 total points.
Oglethorpe was second in the Eastern Division standings with 103 points and two first place votes. DePauw University tallied 101 points and one first place vote, which put them in third place.
Birmingham-Southern College was picked to finish fourth with 57 points and Rhodes College was chosen to finish in fifth place with 26 points. Sewanee University rounded out the Eastern Division picking up 19 points.
Trinity University was chosen to win the Western Division after receiving 83 points. Austin College was not far behind Trinity, as they picked up a first place vote and 83 points. Southwestern would be chosen to finish third in the Western Division after getting 74 points.
Hendrix College was voted to finish fourth with 64 points, while Millsaps College was picked to finish fifth with 51 points. Colorado College rounded out the Western Division with 19 points and a sixth place finish.
Centre will open its 2009-2010 season Wednesday, Nov. 18 against Maryville College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Gym in Danville, Ky.
