Maryville blasts Centre women 91-54

Playing in its first road game of the season, the Centre College women's basketball team fell 91-54 to Maryville College in a non-conference match-up, Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Marvyille, Tenn.

The Colonels, which have now lost back-to-back games, fall to 1-2 on the year, while Maryville remains unbeaten at 3-0 in the early going. The loss also marks the third straight defeat to the Fighting Scots in the last three years.

The Fighting Scots jumped out to a strong start scoring the first 13 points of the game and never looking back. Constantly pressuring the Colonels in the first half, Maryville built a 48-17 halftime advantage. Centre made only five shots from the field in the first period, shooting only 21.7% (5-23), while Maryville made 17 shots from the floor for a 47.2% (17-36) shooting percentage.

The Colonels played much better in the second half, but could not overcome the first half deficit and 22 total turnovers on the night compared to only nine for Maryville.

The Fighting Scots' Natalie Munday scored a game-high 19 points off the bench including making five three pointers to pace Maryville. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had two assists.

Summer Dalton scored 18 points with five rebounds. Kim Seal tallied 13 points and Melissa Uner added 11 points off the bench. Katie Saxe posted a game-high 10 rebounds in the win.

Sophomore guard Jennifer Marees (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the lone Colonel to score in double figures. Marees scored a career-high 10 points to lead the Colonels. Freshmen guard Chelsea Goodman (Harrodsburg, Ky.) and Keonia Masterson (Stanford, Ky.) as well as sophomore guard Monica Vonderbrink (Danville, Ky.) scored eight points apiece.

Centre will next participate in the Thomas More Tournament, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25-26 in Crestview Hills, Ky. The Colonels will open the tournament against Thomas More, Friday at 7 p.m.
