Centre College Director of Athletics and Recreation, Brian Chafin, has announced that Owensboro, Ky. native, Tom Campbell, will become the newest member of the Centre Athletic Department. Campbell will serve as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team starting in the fall of 2007.
Campbell, a 1992 graduate of Transylvania University, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Centre, having coached at both the high school and college levels. His coaching resume includes 12 years as an assistant women's basketball coach at both the college and high school levels and five years as a high school head coach.
Campbell has spent nine years coaching at the college level, beginning his coaching career as a student/graduate assistant coach for the women's basketball program at his alma mater. He then went to Kentucky Wesleyan College as the associate head women's basketball coach for the next five years. While at Kentucky Wesleyan, he also served as the head coach of the men's and women's golf teams.
Campbell then moved to the high school level where he experienced a great deal of success. As a head coach, he guided two schools to the regional semi-finals in a four-year period and led Owensboro Catholic to a regional finals' appearance in 2003. In 2005, Campbell led Owensboro High School to its' first 9th District championship game in his first year and to its first regional game in 11 years in his second season. While at Owensboro Catholic, he led the program to three 9th District final games in three years, securing the #1 see twice.
Campbell has also served as a teacher in the Owensboro Public School System for nine years, most recently as a classroom facilitator/physical education teacher at Seven Hills Alternative School.
