Women's Basketball team drops second game of the year
After a strong start, the Centre College women's basketball team has faced their second set-back of the 2007-2008 season with a 67-53 loss to Case Western Reserve on Sunday Nov. 25. The loss pushed the Colonels overall record to 2-2.
The first half saw four lead changes before Case Western would take a 12-13 lead at the 12:14 mark and hold onto to that lead for the rest of the game. The Colonels would go into the locker room during the half trailing 31-26.
The second half would start with an 8-0 run by Case before
Chrystal Claunch
(Harrodsburg, KY) would hit the front part of her free throw at the 17:35 mark to make it 27-39. Centre would bring the score to within seven with less than ten minutes to play off the shooting of
Chelsea Goodman (Harrodsburg, KY)
and
Chrystal Claunch.
The team defense and hustle kept the game close as the Colonels offense was unable to add any more points to the scoreboard after the 5:17 mark in the second half. Chelsea Goodman and Monica Vonderbrink (Danville, KY) both had double figures in scoring with 18 and 12 respectively. Chelsea Goodman also lead both teams in total rebounds with 13. Crystal Claunch picked up five steals and two assists during her 19 minutes of play.
Centre will next be in action on Saturday, December 1 as they open conference play by hosting DePauw University. The game will be played in Danville, KY and is set to start at 1:00 pm. |
