Colonels suffer first loss of the year at Thomas More Tournament
The Centre College women's basketball team lost to the Thomas More Saints Saturday, November 24 by a score of 61-52. The game was played as part of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic presented by Barleycorn's and hosted by the Saints in Crestview Hills, KY.
Although Centre's only lead of the game was at the 17:21 mark in the first half, the game was never completely determined until the final buzzer went off 36 minutes and 39 seconds later. The Colonels ended the half only down by one point and went on a 10-4 run with less than 10 minutes to play in the second half to bring it within four. Centre would stay within four until five minutes to play when only five more total points would be scored by either team, with no baskets at all by either team from the 3:15 mark until the buzzer.
Centre was lead by senior guard Monica Vonderbrink (Danville, KY) who had 12 points, including four for seven from the three point arc. Sophomore Chelsea Goodman (Harrodsburg, KY) lead the team in rebounds with six while also picking up two steals during the loss. Centre will return to action Sunday, Nov. 25 for day two of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic. Centre will match up against Case Western at 2:00 pm in Crestview, Ky. |
