Women's Basketball News

The Centre College women's basketball team bounced back from last night's loss to Colorado College with an impressive win over visiting Austin College, 70-55, on Saturday, Jan. 17, in Danville, Ky. The Colonels are now 10-6 on the year and are 3-3 in the SCAC.

The first half was a back and forth affair as the lead changed hands eight times. The Colonels took the momentum going into halftime thanks to a last second three-pointer by sophomore guard Amanda Stovall (Louisville, Ky.) which gave the Colonels a two-point lead, 35-33. Stovall had 11 points off of 4-4 shooting to lead all Colonels in points at the half.

Austin hit a three-pointer out of the gate in the second half to retake the lead but the Colonels rallied to seize the lead and the game. After the Austin three the Colonels opened up a 8-0 run to take complete control of the game. After taking the lead in the second half the Colonels never looked back in route to their tenth win of the year.

The Colonels had four starters score in double figures led by junior guard Chelsea Goodman (Harrodsburg, Ky.) who finished with a game high 16 points. Goodman also led all Colonels with 7 rebounds. Stovall finished the game with 14 points and freshman forward Lauren Huter (Louisville, Ky.) also chipped in 14 points. Freshman point guard Maggie Prewitt (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) finished with 13 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds.

The Colonels return to action Friday, Jan. 23, against SCAC opponent Hendrix. Game time is scheduled for 9:00 pm.
