Women's Basketball News

The Centre College women's basketball team won its second straight SCAC conference game by defeating visiting Birmingham Southern, 79-53, on Sunday, January 11, in Danville, Ky. The Colonels improve to 9-5 on the season and are 2-2 in the SCAC.

The Colonels took the lead in the game's first minute and never relinquished that lead in route to their ninth win of the season. In the first half the Colonels dominated in the paint scoring 22 of their 39 points. Leading the way was junior guard Chelsea Goodman (Harrodsburg, Ky.) with 11 first half points.

The Colonels came out in the second half and poured it on the Birmingham Southern Panthers building a lead as high 33 points. Defensively the Colonels put the clamps down on the Panthers in the second half, limiting them to an opponent shooting percentage of 29.6 % (8-27). For the game the Colonels shot an impressive 45.8% (27-59) from the field.

The Colonels were led during the game by Goodman who finished with a team-high 19 points and also added 6 rebounds. Freshmen Maggie Prewitt (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) finished the game with 18 points and freshman center Lauren Huter (Louisville, Ky.) scored 11 points in the game.

The Colonels return to action on Friday, Jan 16, at home against SCAC opponent Colorado College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
