One day after defeating Spalding University by 26 points, the Centre College women's basketball team won big again, defeating Greenville College 82-38 on day two of the 2008 Country Hearth Inn/Lee's Famous Recipe Tournament, Saturday, Nov. 22 in Danville, Ky.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-0 for the second consecutive season, while Greenville falls to 0-2 on the year after falling to Thomas More College on day one of the tournament.

Centre opened the game scoring 18 unanswered points to take a big lead in the early going. The Colonels stretched the lead to as many as 22 points in the opening period before going into the locker room with an 18-point (38-20) advantage.

The second half started much like the first as Centre scored 16 of the first 18 points to take a 65-22 lead. The lead grew to 46 points (77-31) before the game ended in an 82-38 victory for the Colonels.

Centre shot 42.0% (29-69) on the day, including 10 of 29 (34.5%) from beyond the three-point line and 14 of 19 (73.7%) from the charity stripe. Greenville finished the day shooting only 24.1% (14-58) from the field and turned the ball over 26 times.

Thirteen different players scored at least one point for Centre, led by freshman guard Maggie Prewitt's (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) 21 points. Fellow freshman Lauren Huter (Louisville, Ky.) scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while senior guard Alison Denbow (Louisville, Ky.) added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists off the bench.

Susan Githinji scored a team-high nine points to lead the Panthers. LaVasha Kottwitz and Rose Sanders added seven points apiece in the loss.

In the earlier game of the day, Thomas More defeated Spalding 81-48 to improve to 2-0 on the year. Jayme Thiem led the Saints with 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Beth Jamison paced Spalding with 10 points and six rebounds in the defeat.

For their efforts Denbow and Prewitt were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Also named to the team were Greenville's Susan Githinji and Meredith Banal and Spalding's Cee Cee Richardson and Beth Jamison.

Centre will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 25 to host Maryville College. The non-conference game is set to start at 6 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
