Centre dominates Millsaps, 80-57
The Centre College women's basketball team won its third straight SCAC conference game by defeating host Millsaps, 80-57, on Sunday, Jan. 25, in Jackson, Miss. The Colonels are now 12-6 on the year and 5-3 in the SCAC.
The Colonels poured it on the Millsaps Majors early building a seemingly unconquerable 25 point lead by halftime, 47-22. Leading the Colonels at the half was junior guard Chelsea Goodman (Harrodsburg, Ky.) who had 20 points. Goodman almost single-handedly outscored the entire Millsaps team in the first half.
In the second half the Colonels cruised to their twelfth win of the year. The Colonels played lock down defense the entire game limiting the Majors to a shooting percentage of 36.2% (17-47) from the field and an even worse 18.2% (2-11) from beyond the three-point line. The Colonels defense suffocated the Majors forcing them to commit 31 turnovers in the game. Offensively, the Colonels were in sync, going 32-71 (45.1) from the field and an impressive 9-17 (52.9%) from three-point land.
Goodman finished the game with a game-high 27 points and also added 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Freshman point guard Maggie Prewitt (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) scored 11 points and had 7 assists.
The Colonels return to action at home Friday, Jan. 30, against SCAC opponent Southwestern. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 pm. |
