Women's Basketball News

The Centre College women earned its third straight win by defeating Colorado College 89-62 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) game Friday, Jan. 29 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

With the win the Colonels improved to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in the SCAC, while Colorado falls to 11-7 overall and 5-5 in league play.

Senior guard Chelsea Goodman (Harrodsburg, Ky.) hit a three-pointer for the games first points and Centre did not look back leading the entire game.

The Colonels led by 10 points (24-14) midway through the first half and pushed the lead to 21 points (44-23) by the end of the opening period.

Colorado cut the lead to 12 (68-56) at the 6:44 mark in the second half, but was unable to get any closer as Centre scored the next 10 points to extend the lead to 22 points (78-56) with just over five minutes to play en-route to the 27-point victory.

The Colonels shot 52.9% (27-51) from the field, including 46.7% (7-15) from beyond the three-point arc and 28 of 37 (75.7%) from the free throw line. The Tigers were limited to only 28.8% (23-80) shooting, including only 8-33 (24.2%) from the three-point line.

Goodman led all scorers with 25 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds and adding five assists. Sophomore guard Maggie Prewitt (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) tallied 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Sophomore center Lauren Huter (Louisville, Ky.) had 15 points and junior guard Amanda Stovall (Louisville, Ky.) notched 11 points.

Collier Clegg led Colorado with 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Alyssa Aldaz also finished in double figures with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Centre will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 31 against Austin College. The SCAC game will be played as part of a men's/women's double-header and is set to start at 1 p.m. CST in Sherman, Texas.
