Men's cross country wins Regional
For the second straight year, the Centre College men's cross country team has won the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships, this time finishing first out of 21 schools, Saturday, Nov. 11 in Atlanta, Ga.
The Colonels finished with a team score of 54 to finish nine points ahead of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Rhodes College (63). The host school, Emory University was third with a score of 79. The three schools finished in the exact same order in last year's meet.
Senior Eric Hack (Louisville, Ky.) led the Colonels, placing third overall with a time of 16:11. Hack was joined in the top 10 by sophomore Chase Wilson (Paducah, Ky.), who placed 10th overall with a time of 26:26.
Freshman Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.), junior Nate Blank (Frakes, Ky.) and sophomore Joey Polio (Owensboro, Ky.) rounded out the top five for Centre. Parks finished 11th with a time of 26:31. Blank followed in 15th with a time of 26:43 and Polio came in 16th with a time of 26:44.
By placing in the top 35, all five guys earned all-region honors.
Rhodes' Alex Mahoney was the meet's overall individual winner out of 152 competitors, completing the 8k course in 25:41.
Centre will next travel to Mason, Ohio, Saturday, Nov. 18 to participate in the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships. This is the third consecutive year the Colonels have qualified for the Championships.
