Centre men finish third at Sewanee Invite
The Centre College men's cross country team opened its 2006 with a third place finish at the Sewanee Invitational hosted by Sewanee-University of the South, Saturday, Sept. 2, in Sewanee, Tenn.
The Colonels finished with a score of 80 to finish third out of 15 schools. Division I member Mississippi State University won the event with five top ten finishers for a score of 24. Birmingham Southern, which is in the process of moving from Division I to Division III, was second with 71 points.
Junior Nate Blank (Frakes, Ky.) paced the Colonels with a sixth place finish in 26:31. Senior Eric Hack (Louisville, Ky.) finished just outside the top 10 in 11th with a time of 26:50.
Sophomore Chase Wilson (Paducah, Ky.) was the third Colonel across the finish line with a 17th place finish in 27:22. Senior Anthony Lippert (Harrodsburg, Ky.) and freshman Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out the top five for Centre. Lippert was 20th with a time of 27:26, while Parks ended his first collegiate race in 28:11 to place 34th.
Mississippi State's Travis McKay was the top finisher among 152 runners in the 8k race with a time of 26:04. The Colonels finished ahead of two conference foes, Rhodes (4th) and Sewanee (8th).
Centre will next host the Centre College Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 9, in Danville, Ky.
