Colonel men win home event
The Centre College men's cross country team recorded its first win of the 2006 season, finishing first out of five schools at the Centre College Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 9, in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels had the top four finishers and six of the first 10, finishing with a team score of 17. Berea College was second (63) followed by Lindsey Wilson (65) in third, Georgetown College fourth (84) and Transylvania fifth (134).
Junior Nate Blank (Frakes, Ky.) was the overall individual winner out of 43 total competitors, running the 8k course in 26:47. Blank was followed by sophomore Chase Wilson (Paducah, Ky.) in second (27:25), Senior Eric Hack (Louisville, Ky.) in third (27:33) and senior Anthony Lippert (Harrodsburg, Ky.) in fourth (27:52).
Sophomore Joey Polio (Owensboro, Ky.) and freshman Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.) also placed in the top 10 for Centre. Polio was seventh with a time of 28:18, while Parks finished ninth with a time of 29:00.
Centre will take a week off and then compete in the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals, Friday, September 22, hosted by Wilmington College in Mason, Ohio. |
