Cross Country runners named Academic All-Americans
For the second year the men's and women's cross country teams won Team Academic All-American Honors. Four Centre College cross country members were recently named to the Academic All-American Team.
Requirements for the Team Academic All-American Honors require the cumulative GPA of all members on the roster be a 3.1 or higher. The men's team finished with a 3.26 GPA while the women's team posted a 3.29 GPA.
Sophomore Chase Wilson (Paducah, Ky.) and junior Nate Blank (Frakes, Ky.) were named Academic All-Americans from the men's team. Wilson, with a 3.92 grade point average, finished 11th in the region out of 152 runners while Blank, with a 3.91 grade point average, finished 16th in the region out of the 152 runners.
Both Wilson and Blank finished in the top 15 to help Centre win the Division III South/Southeast Regional Cross Country Championship for the second year in a row. Both runners hold top five spots in the
Men's Top 30 All-Time Centre Times list.
Seniors Eileen Schilling (Louisville, Ky.) and Ines Kevric (Bowling Green, Ky.)
were also named Academic All-Americans. Schilling, who holds three of Centre College's top individual times, has a 3.61 grade point average and finished the season 7th in the region out of 177 runners. Kevric has a 3.80 grade point average and finished 23rd of the 177 runners.
Both women earned all-region honors at the Regional's competition this year by finishing in the top 35. Schilling went on to compete and place 207th in her fourth Women's Cross Country Championship.
To be named as an Academic All-American the student-athlete must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and finish in the top 25% of the region. |
