Women's cross country wins home meet, men second
In its annual home meet, the Centre College women's cross country team finished first overall out of five teams, while the men's team placed second out of four teams at the Centre Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 8 in Danville, Ky.
The women's team finished with a team score of 38 to edge out Lindsey Wilson College (45) for the win. Georgetown College was third with 57 points, followed by Midway College in fourth with 97 points and Kentucky Christian University in fifth with 134 points.
The Colonels placed its top five runners in the top 10 led by freshman Regina Basconi (Johnson City, Tenn.) Basconi finished the 5k race fifth overall out of 41 competitors with a time of 20:51.
Sophomore Lauren McCafferty (Newport, Ky.) was sixth with a time of 21:15. Freshman Rose Myers (Cedar Key, Fla.) placed eighth overall with a time of 21:56, followed by freshmen Rachel Blank (Frakes, Ky.) and Haley Gray (Lexington, Ind.) in ninth and 10th place. Blank had a time of 22:08, while Gray finished in 22:10.
The men's team finished with a team score of 32, ending up only five points behind Lindsey Wilson (27) for first place. Georgetown College was third with 77 points, while Alice Lloyd totaled 112 points to place fourth.
The Centre men also placed its top five in the top 10, including two runners in the top five overall. Sophomore Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.) paced the Colonels placing third overall on the 8k course out of 42 total runners with a time of 27:48.
Junior Joey Polio (Owensboro, Ky.) finished fifth with a time of 28:17 followed by senior John Schuler (Prospect, Ky.) in seventh (28:32), senior Nate Blank (Frakes, Ky.) in eighth (28:36) and freshman Clinton Cahall (Georgetown, Ky.) in ninth (28:36).
