Cross country teams compete in Louisville Classic
Competing as the only non-scholarship school in both races, the Centre College men's cross country team placed 29th while the women's team was 28th at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
The men's team finished with a team score of 235 to place 29th out of 36 competing schools. The University of Louisville won the event with a score of 43 followed by Rend Lake College in second with a 174 and Eastern Kentucky University in third with a 155.
Sophomore Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.) paced Centre placing 139th with a time of 26:11. Senior Nate Blank (Frakes, Ky.) finished in 168th place with a time of 26:29. Junior Joey Polio (Owensboro, Ky.) was 175th in 26:33.
Senior John Schuler (Prospect, Ky.) and freshman Sam Morgan (Danville, Ky.) rounded out the top five placing 201st and 202nd. Schuler ran a 26:49.51 and Morgan was right behind him with a 26:49.78.
Eastern Kentucky's Jacob Korir was the event's top finisher out of 310 runners. Korir completed the 8k course in 23:08.
The Centre women placed 28th out of 28 schools with a team score of 172. The University of Kentucky won the event with a team score of 24 followed by the University of Louisville in second with a 49 and Georgia Tech in third with a 92.
Junior Emily Grandy (Bay Village, Ohio) was the first Colonel across the finish line finishing with a time of 20:10 to place 161st. Sophomore Lauren McCafferty (Newport, Ky.) placed 183rd with a 20:36. Freshman Regina Basconi (Johnson City, Tenn.) ran a 20:48 to finish 190th.
Freshman Rachel Blank (Frakes, Ky.) and Haley Gray (Lexington, Ind.) rounded out the Colonels top five in 201st and 204th places respectively. Blank ran a time of 21:11, while Gray finished in 21:18.
Rend Lake College's Pasca Cheruiyot won the individual title out of 239 total competitors. Cheruiyot finished the 5k race in 17:06.
