Men and Women 1st in Centre Invitational
In the second meet of the year, and the first meet at home, both the Centre men's and women's cross country teams finished first in the Centre Cross Country Invitational, on Saturday Sept. 13, in Danville, Ky.
The Centre men's team placed 1st out of 9 teams with 28 points. Senior Chase Wilson (Paducah, Ky.) paced the Colonels by finishing first in the men's race with a time of 27:12.67. Junior Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.) snagged a third place finish with a time of 27:53.40. Finishing in seventh place for the Colonels was freshman Willie Polio (Owensboro, Ky.) with a time of 28:51.14. The Colonels also captured the eighth and ninth sports in the race with respective times of 29:03.56 by sophomore Clinton Cahall (Georgetown, Ohio) and 29:22.72 by senior Joey Polio (Owensboro, Ky.)
The Centre women's team also finished first on the day beating out 10 other schools with 51 overall points. Junior Lauren McCafferty (Newport, Ky.) finished third with a time of 20:33. The next Colonel to cross the finish line with a time of 21:35 good for seventh place was freshman Bekah Rehkamp (Florence, Ky.)). Junior Bethany Pratt (Richmond, Ky.) finished eleventh with a time of 22:13. Sophomore Haley Gray (Lexington, Ind.) came in fourteenth with a time of 22:34. Overall the Colonels placed eight runners in the top 20.
Britney Chesser from Georgetown College was the overall winner for the women's race with a time of 19:24.
The Colonels return to action next weekend, Saturday Sept. 20, in the Berea Invitational.
