Polio earns SCAC Runner of the Week accolades
Centre College senior men's cross country runner Joey Polio (Owensboro, Ky.) has become the third Colonel runner to earn recognition from the conference this season as he was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets run Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3-4.
The senior captain placed 17th in a field of 230 runners at the NCAA Division III Pre-National meet hosted by Hanover College by finishing the 8K course in a personal best 26:11.
Polio's finish helped Centre place fifth overall out of 20 teams and in the process defeat DePauw University for the first time in school history and the University of Texas Tyler, which had been ranked second in the South/Southeast Region. The Colonels also defeated No. 21 MIT.
Polio joins teammates Chase Wilson (Paducah, Ky.) and Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.) among SCAC Runner of the Week recipients this year. Wilson earned the honor after week two, while Parks' recognition came after week three.
Centre will next compete in the Furman Invitational Saturday, Oct. 11 in Greenville, S.C.
