Women's cross country third at Centre Invite
One week after finishing sixth at the Sewanee Invitational, the Centre College women's cross country team placed third at the Centre College Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 9, in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels finished with a team score of 56 to place third out of six teams. Georgetown College won the meet with a score of 33, followed by Lindsey Wilson College with 47 points. Transylvania University (120), Midway College (124) and Berea College (149) rounded out the field.
Freshman Ashley Gregory (New Albany, Ohio) paced the Colonels, finishing third overall with a time of 20:43. Junior Samantha Mahaffey (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Lauren McCafferty (Newport, Ky.) placed 11th and 12th. Mahaffey ran the 5k course in a time of 22:08, while McCafferty finished three seconds behind her with a time of 22:11.
Freshman Jessi Asher (Brodhead, Ky.) placed 14th with a time of 22:29 and freshman Holly Overcash (Goshen, Ky.) was 16th with a time of 22:34 to round out the Centre top five.
Lindsey Wilson's Stellah Sang was the meet's overall winner out of 53 competitors with a time of 19:19. Georgetown's Britney Chesser finished second overall with a time of 19:56.
Centre will take a week off and then return to action, Friday, Sept. 22, when it competes in the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals, in Mason, Ohio. |
