Women's cross country eighth at Regionals
Senior Eileen Schilling (Louisville, Ky.) qualified for her fourth NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships leading the Centre College women's cross country team to an eighth place finish at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships, Saturday, Nov. 11, in Atlanta, Ga.
The Colonels finished with a team score of 208 to place eighth for the second straight year. The host school, Emory University, finished first with a team score of 38. Trinity University was second with a score of 64 and Washington and Lee University was third with a team score of 106.
Schilling paced the Colonels, placing seventh overall with a time of 23:31. Senior Ines Kevric (Bowling Green, Ky.) was the second Centre runner across the finish line, finishing 23rd overall with a time of 24:32. Both Schilling and Kevric earned all-region honors by placing in the top 35.
Freshmen Lauren McCafferty (Newport, Ky.) and Ashley Gregory (New Albany, Ohio) and junior Samantha Mahaffey (Louisville, Ky.) round out the top five for the Colonels. McCafferty finished in 53 place with a time of 25:55. Gregory was 61st with a time of 26:19 and Mahaffey placed 74th overall with a time of 26:36.
Emory's Amy Dibianca was the meet's overall individual winner, placing first out of 177 total competitors. Dibianca finished the 6k race in 22:54.
Schilling, a two-time All-American, will return to the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships for one final time, Saturday, Nov. 11 in Mason, Ohio.
