Centre women fifth at SCAC Championships
Running on its home course, the Centre College women's cross country team placed fifth overall out of 10 teams at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Cross Country Championships, Saturday, Oct. 28, in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels, which hosted the event for the first time since 2001, finished with a team score of 130, only two points behind Rhodes College (128) for fourth place. DePauw University claimed its fourth straight team title with a team score of 35.
Colorado College, which competed in its first championships since recently joining the conference, was second with a score of 56 and Trinity University finished third with a score of 61.
Senior Eileen Schilling (Louisville, Ky.) was the top finisher for the Colonels, placing seventh overall in a time of 24:18. By placing in the top 14, Schilling earned all-SCAC recognition for the fourth straight year.
Senior Ines Kevric (Bowling Green, Ky.) was the second Colonel across the finish line. Kevric was 18th overall with a time of 24:52. Freshman Ashley Gregory (New Albany, Ohio) was next for Centre in 39th with a time of 26:22.
Freshman Lauren McCafferty (Newport, Ky.) and senior Samantha Mahaffey (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out the top five for Centre placing 41st and 42nd overall. McCafferty finished the race in 26:24, while Mahaffey followed with a time of 26:29.
DePauw's Lauren Reich was the overall individual winner out of 82 total competitors, finishing the 5k race in a time of 23:31.
Centre will next compete in the NCAA Regionals, Saturday, Nov. 11 in Atlanta, Ga. |
