Cross Country News

The Centre men's and women's cross country team took first place at their home meet, the Centre Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 12, in Danville, Ky. The men's meet had six teams competing and the women's meet consisted of eight teams.

In the men's 8k race Centre had three runners finish in the top five, with sophomore Willie Polio (Owensboro, Ky.) winning the race in a time of 27:23. Junior Clinton Cahall (Georgetown, Ohio) came in second place overall with a time of 27:26. Senior Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.) came in third for the Colonels and fifth overall in 27:47.

Sophomore Graham Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio) came in 11th overall (28:34) and junior Sam Morgan (Danville, Ky.) finished 13th overall and fifth for the Colonels in a time of 29:03.

The Colonels won the meet with a total of 28 total points. Berea College came in second place with 50 total points and Georgetown College came in third with 84 points.

The Centre women's team had four runners place in the top ten at the meet. Sophomore Bekah Rehkamp (Florence, Ky.) came in first for the Colonels and fourth overall in the meet with a time of 20:27 and senior Lauren McCafferty (Newport, Ky.) came in fifth overall with a time of 20:34. Freshman Hillary Dawe (Charlotte, NC) came in third for the Colonels and sixth overall in 20:58.

Junior Regina Basconi (Johnson City, Tenn.) was not far behind the first three Centre finishers with a ninth place finish in a time of 21:35. Junior Megan Miller (Premia de Mar, Spain) finished 12th in the race coming in with a time of 21:56.

Britney Chesser from Georgetown College won the 5k race in a time of 19:31.

The Colonels finished the meet with 31 total points to give them first place. Georgetown College came in second overall with 64 total points and Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson tied for third with 66 total points.

The men and women next compete at the Georgetown Invitational on Saturday, September 26th, in Georgetown, Ky.
