The Centre women’s team has high expectations heading into the 2009 season as they return every runner from their 2008 squad.  The team will be led by the front-running duo of senior Lauren McCafferty and sophomore Bekah Rehkamp.

McCafferty returns as the consistent #1 runner for the Colonels in 2007 and 2008.  In 2008, McCafferty was named to the NCAA South/Southeast All-Region team along with garnering Academic All-American honors.  McCafferty finished 28th at the NCAA South Regional Meet and 21st at the SCAC Championship Meet.

Rehkamp is poised to join McCafferty on the All-Region team this season.  In 2008, Rehkamp was the consistent #2 runner for the Colonels as she finished 31st at the SCAC meet and 42nd at the NCAA South Regional Meet.  Rehkamp also earned Academic All-American honors in 2008.

McCafferty and Rehkamp will be joined by a host of other runners capable of scoring for the Colonels.  Bethany Pratt returns as the consistent #3 runner for the Colonels in 2008 as a senior captain on the team.  Fellow senior captain Holly Overcash returns as the #4 runner at both the SCAC Championship Meet and the South/Southeast Regional Meet.  Regina Basconi, Rose Myers, Haley Gray, and Megan Miller are four other returners capable of scoring for the Colonels in 2009.

The Colonels also bring in newcomers Annie Wigginton (Bloomfield, KY) and Hillary Dawe (Charlotte, NC), who are both capable of contributing to the 2009 Colonel team.  Wigginton comes into Center with a 5k cross country personal best time of 20:35.  Dawe boasts a personal best time of 19:38 which she ran to place 7th at her high school state meet in 2008.

“I am extremely excited about the prospects of our women’s team this fall,” said head coach Lisa H. Owens, “our women have worked hard this summer and are hungry to be a competitive factor within our conference and our region this fall”.

The women open their season on September 5th at the University of the South Invitational in Sewanee, Tennessee.
