Men finish 5th and women finish 6th at Sewanee Invitational
The men’s and women's cross country team opened their season on Saturday, Sept. 5th, at the Sewanee Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn. where the men placed fifth and the women finished sixth out of eleven teams.
The Centre men placed fifth out of eleven teams with a total of 145 points. Mississippi State University won the meet with a total of 24 points where they had seven runners finish in the top ten. Emory University was the only other team that had runners finish in the top ten and they came in second overall with a total of 50 points.
Senior Jason Parks (Louisville, Ky.) was the top male runner for the Colonels finishing the meet in 12th place with a time of 27:03. Junior Clinton Cahall (Georgetown, Ohio) came in second for the Colonels, finishing 21st with a time of 27:28. Coming in third for the Colonels and 36th overall was sophomore Graham Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio) with a time of 28:17, followed by sophomre Willie Polio (Owensboro, Ky.) in 43rd (28:45) and then junior Sam Morgan (Danville, Ky.) in 55th with a time of 29:13.
Tommy Fyffe from Emory University won the men's race with a time of 25:36.
The women's cross country team finished sixth overall out of eleven teams with 171 points. Mississippi State University also won the women's meet with 25 points. Georgia State University came in second with 68 points and Emory University came in third with 77 points. The other two teams to finish in front of Centre were Rhodes College with 86 points and Tennessee Tech with 161 points.
Sophomore Bekah Rehkamp (Florence, Ky.) was the top female finisher for the Colonels coming in 17th out of all the women with a time of 20:18. Senior Lauren McCafferty (Newport, Ky.) finished the race in 32nd with a time of 20:50 followed by junior Regina Basconi (Johnson City, Tenn.) in 45th with a time of 21:29, coming in next for the Colonels was junior Haley Gray (Lexington, Ind.) in 48th (21:36). Coming in 53rd was senior Bethany Pratt (Richmond, Ky.) in 21:46 and 63rd was freshman Hillary Dawe (Charlotte, NC) with a time of 22:14.
Renee Masterson from Mississippi State University won the women's race with a time of 17:57.
The men and women host the Centre Invitational on Saturday, September 12th, in Danville, Ky.
