Sutcliffe Hall, located on the south end of campus, is the hub of athletics and fitness at Centre. Renovated in 2005, it has everything students need for fitness and fun. With three gymnasiums (Alumni, Bowman, and Hazelrigg), two fitness rooms, two racquetball courts, an athletic training room, and seven locker rooms, you have plenty of options for keeping in shape.

Directions and Parking
While traveling east on W. Walnut St., take a right on College St. Sutcliffe Hall will be on your right. Visitor parking is available in front of the building and beside the Boles Natatorium.

Buck Fitness Center
The Buck Fitness Center is a fully equipped fitness facility offering free weight, plate-loaded and machine lifting opportunities as well as a variety of aerobic machines. Instructors are on staff to guide you through custom strength and fitness programs. 859-238-5930

Almni Gymnasium
Home of Colonel basketball and volleyball, the Alumni Gym was made possible by the gifts of our loyal alums. The renovation of this facility affords the Colonels one of the finest competition venues in Division III.
Bowman Gymnasium
Bowman gymnasium is used as a secondary court for Colonel volleyball tournaments and also provides additional practice space for the intercollegiate basketball teams. The gym is available for recreation when the intercollegiate teams do not have it reserved.
Racquetball Courts
Two regulation racquetball courts with hardwood flooring are located on the lower level of Sutcliffe Hall. Equipped with a viewing balcony, these courts are ideal for activity classes and recreational use. Two additional regulation courts are available for walleyball and recreational play.

Other Athletic Facilities

Farris Stadium
Sports: Varsity Football, Track and Field, Field Hockey
Home to the Colonel football team and track teams, the stadium was built in 1923. In the summer of 2009 the stadium received an upgrade with the football field changing from a natural grass surface to field turf. Centre has also installed a new scoreboard and new play clocks along with a net system designed to protect Sutcliffe Hall. In addition to the NCAA regulation football field, there is a six-lane rubberized track, which was upgraded in the summer of 2009. The track is available for walking and running when the field is not in use.

Gary Wright Field
Sports: Varsity Baseball and Football, Intramural Football
The home of the Colonels baseball team has received numerous upgrades over the past few years and continues to do so. Lights were installed in the summer of 2005, courtesy of 1964 Centre alum Gary Wright, allowing for the first night games at Centre. New dugouts, a brick backstop from dugout to dugout and an arch entranceway were also completed in the summer of 2006, improving both the appearance and functionality of the facility. The entire playing field was resurfaced in the summer of 2008.

Soccer Field
Sports: Varsity Soccer
Centre annually finishes in the top ten nationally in attendance, playing in one of the best soccer facilities in Division III soccer, which was enhanced by the addition of lights in 2005. The all-Bermuda, game only surface, was renovated in 1999 with a new press box and bench area for competing teams. The facility is surrounded by a hillside that is popular with students and fans and provides a comfortable seating area for The Friends and Family of Centre Soccer Group.

Recreation Field
Sports: Intramural Sports
The Recreation Field is a natural surface. The field has limited availability during the year; contact Sonny Evans at 238-8734 for more information.

Millennium Park
Sports: Varsity Softball
Maintained by the county, this 135-acre park is complete with running trails for students, varsity runners, and nature enthusiasts. In addition, The Colonels Softball team plays and practices at Millennium Park. The softball field at Millennium was constructed in the winter and spring of 2003. It has a batting cage and bullpen along with indoor press box, concession and restroom facilities. This venue is one of the best sites in Division III.

Danville Country Club
Sports: Golf
The Colonel Golf teams practice on the magnificent Danville Country Club course. This 18-hole, private course also hosts college tournaments, including the prestigious Centre Invitational. For more information on the course, visit: http://www.danvillecountryclub.com

Boles Natatorium
Sports: Swimming & Diving
Centre’s home for all things aquatic, the Boles Natatorium is perfect for water sports and recreation. Featuring a seventy-five foot long pool with six lanes and two diving boards, the Natatorium is open to students, staff, and fitness center members for free swimming, lap swimming and diving. Tennis Facilities
Sports: Tennis
Centre’s Varsity Tennis teams play on six, premier-surfaced courts located in the southwest corner of campus. The courts are reserved during daylight hours in the fall, but are open for recreational use from 6 pm to 11 pm during tennis season, and throughout the day in the spring. |
