Sophomore roommates Mary Kate Clodius (St. Louis, Mo.) and Rachel Watkins (Louisvill,e Ky.) scored a combined five goals for Centre as the team wasted no time in recovering from their first loss of the season earlier this week. Centre defeated Hendrix College 6-0 in SCAC competition in Danville, Ky., to boost their record to 11-1.
Watkins scored goals early in each half with senior Taylor Gray adding one in between for the game's first three goals. Gray's was off a penalty corner, while Watkins second was assisted by junior Teresa Johnstone. Clodius added a hat-trick in the second frame with one unassisted goal, and two others with assists from Johnstone and freshman Brittany Coppola.
Whitney Weigel was solid in goal turning away all three Hendrix shots. The Colonels possessed well in the midfield and back lines controlling the pace of the match throughout.
On the day, Centre outshot Hendrix 22-3 and held a 17-5 advantage in penalty corners. With the win, Centre boosts their record to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in SCAC play. Rhodes College, coming off an overtime win against Sewanee earlier today, will be hosted by the Colonels on Sunday, Oct. 7, for a 1:00pm match. Senior day festivities will preclude the contest. This will be the final home match for seniors Ashley Distler, Gray, Ann Guagliardo, Mollie Ronald, and Weigel.
