The Centre College field hockey team defeated the College of Wooster 2-0 Sunday afternoon in front of a boistrous crowd in Danville, Ky. The Colonels scored within the opening five minutes to take control and never looked back against their regional rivals from the north.

Sophomore Rachel Watkins (Louisville, Ky.) scored on a penalty corner to get the Colonels on the scoreboard with thirty-one minutes remaining in the first half. Senior Taylor Gray (Louisville, Ky.) assisted on the play. From there, the Colonels played consistently on both ends of the pitch with Wooster mounting few serious attempts at goal in the first frame.

Centre extended its lead late in the first half as senior Mollie Ronald (Louisville, Ky.) scored her second goal of the season, off another assist from Gray, to take a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Wooster did manage to wrestle momentum away from the Colonels for a few minutes in the second half which resulted in a penalty stroke being awarded to the Scots mid-way through the second half. However, Centre goal keeper Ann Guagliardo (Louisville, Ky.) saved the attempt to maintain the lead and the eventual shutout. The Colonels again played well defensively and dictated the pace much of the match.

The Colonels enjoyed outstanding efforts across the pitch once again and look forward to continuing their great start next weekend as they travel to Virginia.

Centre will play at Bridgewater College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, and Washington and Lee University at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9. The match with Bridgewater is a schedule change due to Randolph-Macon College cancelling their season last week.
