| The Centre College field hockey team is off to a strong start and it is being noticed as junior forward Teresa Johnstone (Louisville, Ky.)
and senior goalkeeper Ann Guagliardo (Louisville, Ky.) have swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's (SCAC) weekly field hockey honors.
Johnstone was named the SCAC's Offensi ve Player-of-the-Week for matches played Friday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 3 and Guagliardo was named the league's Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the same matches. Coming back from recent knee surgery, Johnstone scored a hat trick in Saturday's 6-0 win over Oberlin - finding the net on all three of her shot attempts.  The junior forward played a solid all-around game in the Centre's 2-0 win over College of Wooster on Sunday, and was quite a presence over the entire weekend as the Colonels jumped to a 2-0 start to the 2007 season.
Guagliardo posted consecutive shutouts against Oberlin and Wooster over the weekend saving all 10 shots on goal as well as a penalty stroke behind a Colonel defense that allowed just 18 shots in total over the weekend. Centre will return to action Saturday, Sept. 8, when it travels to Bridgewater, Va. to play Bridgewater College. The match is set to start at 1 p.m. |
