Field hockey team downs Transylvania 4-0 Playing a close rival, the Centre College field hockey team continued its strong play posting a 4-0 shutout over Transylvania University in a non-conference match, Wednesday, Sept. 26 in Danville, Ky. With 1:29 left on the clock in the first half, the Colonels jumped on the scoreboard when sophomore Sally Faulkner (Louisville, Ky.) scored her fourth goal of the season to give Centre a 1-0 lead. The score remained that way into the intermission, but did not last long in the second half as freshman Cynthia Morse (Louisville, Ky.) scored her third goal of the year off an assist from sophomore Victoria Richardson (Webster, N.Y.). The Colonels weren't done there. Seniors Taylor Gray (Louisville, Ky.) and Ashley Distler (Louisville, Ky.) added a goal each for the final 4-0 tally. Gray and freshman Brittany Coppola (Louisville, Ky.) had an assist each. Centre out shot the Pioneers 8-4 on the day and held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Ann Guagliardo (Louisville, Ky.) earned the shutout win. Guagliardo stopped all three shots she faced. Centre, now 9-0 overall, will return to action Saturday, Sept. 29 to host Sewanee-The University of the South. The match is set to start at 11 a.m. as part of Centre's Family Weekend. |
