SCAC recognizes Centre's Distler for defensive effort
Following two wins over the weekend, Centre College senior field hockey player Ashley Distler (Louisville, Ky.) has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's (SCAC) Field Hockey Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played Monday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Sept. 16.
Distler helped dictate the pace of both matches with her leadership and presence in the backfield, resulting in the Colonels' third shutout win (3-0) of the season against DePauw University and a lone goal (5-1) against the speedy and potent penalty corner attack of Lindenwood University.
The goal on Sunday was the only the third Centre has allowed this season as the Colonels have jumped out to one of its best starts in school history. Distler also posted four shots on the weekend.
The senior joins teammates Ann Guagliardo (Louisville, Ky.) and Teresa Johnstone (Louisville, Ky.) as having been recognized by the SCAC. Guagliardo, a senior was named Defensive Player-of-the-Week after week one, while Johnstone, a junior, was named Offensive Player-of-the-Week the same week.
Centre, 6-0 overall on the year and 1-0 in league play, will take to the road to play Rhodes College, Saturday, Sept. 22. The match is set to begin at noon in Memphis, Tenn. |
