Centre wins eighth straight in field hockey
For the fourth time this season the Centre College field hockey team posted a shutout victory, this time defeating first-year program Hendrix College 3-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match Sunday, Sept. 23 in Conway, Ark.
With the win, the Colonels remain undefeated and improve to 8-0 overall on the year and 3-0 in SCAC play. Hendrix falls to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in league action.
Centre controlled the entire match out-shooting the Warriors 13-0 on the day, including a 9-0 advantage in the first half alone. Sophomore Rachel Watkins (Louisville, Ky.) opened the scoring with her fourth goal of the year at the 8:21 mark in the first half.
Centre then added two more goals in the second half as sophomore Sally Faulkner (Louisville, Ky.) scored her third goal of the year and Watkins added her second goal of the match for the final 3-0 tally.
Junior Teresa Johnstone (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Taylor Gray (Louisville, Ky.) recorded an assist each in the win, while senior Whitney Weigel (Louisville, Ky.) earned the win in goal for Centre.
The Colonels will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 26, when they host Transylvania University. The non-conference match is set to begin at 5 p.m. in Danville, Ky. |
