Colonels remain unbeaten with 5-1 win over Lindenwood

The Centre College field hockey team scored three goals in the opening period and two more in the second period to defeat visiting Lindenwood University 5-1 in a non-conference match Sunday, Sept. 16, in Danville, Ky.

The Colonels scored three unanswered goals by a trio of sophomores to take a 3-0 lead in the first half. Mary Kate Clodius (St. Louis, Mo.), Sally Faulkner (Louisville, Ky.) and Rachel Watkins (Louisville, Ky.) tallied a goal each in the opening period with Clodius also adding an assist on Faulkner's score.

Lindenwood (1-5) scored its lone goal off a penalty corner at the 22:46 mark, but would not score again the remainder of the match.

Centre continued to control the action in the second period as junior Teresa Johnstone (Louisville, Ky.) added her sixth and seventh goals of the season to cap the scoring. Senior Taylor Gray (Louisville, Ky.) also had a big day assisting on three goals, while freshman Cynthia Morse (Louisville, Ky.) posted her third assist of the year.

Centre, now 6-0 on the season, will step back into conference play, Saturday, Sept. 22, when it travels to Memphis, Tenn. to play Rhodes College. The SCAC match is set to start at 12 p.m.
