Field hockey wraps up weekend with 6-1 victory

The Centre College field hockey team looked impressive today against visiting Fontbonne University earning the win, 6-1, on Sunday Sept. 7, in Danville, Ky.

The Colonels wasted little time establishing their dominance on the field today racking up a 3-0 lead going into the half. Senior forward/midfielder Beth Faulkner (Louisville, Ky.) struck first for the Colonels at the 23:36 mark. She was assisted on the goal by junior forward Rachel Watkins (Chicago, Ill.). Beth Faulker continued to play a key role in the offense as she assisted fellow senior forward Teresa Johnstone (Louisville, Ky.) on a goal at the 14:37 mark. Faulker then went on to score her second goal of the day in the closing seconds of the first half.

Centre continued to add to their lead in the second half adding three more goals. Sophomore midfielder Cynthia Morse (Louisville, Ky.) scored a goal at the 20:06 mark. She was assisted on the goal by senior Emily Boyle (Louisville, Ky.). Adding another goal at the 8:10 mark was junior forward/midfielder Mary Kate Clodius (St. Louis, Mo.). Clodius was assisted on the goal by Teresa Johnstone. Johnstone added another goal, the final of the day for the Colonels, at the 1:00 mark. Johnstone was assisted by Rachel Watkins. Fontbonne also found the back of the net in the second half but could not manage any sort of comeback and eventually fell 6-1.

On the day the three standout players for the Colonels were Beth Faulkner, Teresa Johnstone and Rachel Watkins. Faulkner scored two goals and recorded one assist. Johnstone has two goals of her own and one assist. Watkins chipped in with three assists.

The Colonels return to action this weekend against DePauw at home. It is the first conference match for the Colonels this season. Game time is schedule for 11:00 am.
